How To: Manually Backup Files From One Computer to the Next

This is to show you how to manually copy your files over to a folder to be moved over to a different computer using a USB Thumb Drive.

  1. Right click anywhere on a blank area on your desktop, then left click on "New" and then left click again on "Folder".
  2. Name the new folder whatever you would like. For best results, name the folder with the date you created it. Example date: 03-03-05, for March 3, 2005.
  3. Double click on "My Computer" and then on "Local Disk C" or "C Drive".
  4. Double click on "Program Files". If you see a message that appears on your screen marked "Show contents of this folder", click on "Show contents of this folder" and then Double click on "Program Files". Finally Double click on Cabinet Solutions.
  5. Click on "View" at the top of your screen and then click on "Details".
  6. Click once where it says "Type". This will group the file types together, making it easy to sort through them.
  7. First set you'll be looking for is your Customized Cabinets. (Cabinets you've saved in your library.) If you do not have any Customized Cabinets, you can skip to number 8.
    1. Scroll until you see "CCB File" and left click ONCE on the name of the first item under where it says "Name".
    2. Scroll down until you see the last file marked "CCB File", hold down the shift key on your keyboard and then left click ONCE on the last file name.
    3. Now that your items are selected, left click on "Edit" at the top of your screen, and then left click on "Copy".
    4. Now Minimize this screen by left clicking on the " _ " in the upper right hand corner of your screen, near the " X ".
    5. Double click on the new folder we created in Step 1 to open it, and then go to "Edit" and then "Paste".
    6. Minimize this screen by clicking on the " _ " in the upper right hand corner again, and open the "Cabinet Solutions" folder that should already be on your "Task Bar" at the bottom of your screen.
  8. Next, we look for the Job costing files. Repeat the same steps as Step 7a through 7f, but instead of looking for "CCB File" under "Type", you are looking for "CSD File", which are your standard files. You will want to select all of those files BUT the "AUTOSAVE.CSD". This file does not need to be backed up.
  9. Make sure you select and copy the file marked "WOODTYPE.NAM". This is your wood type information.
  10. Now we are looking for the Standard files. Repeat the same steps as Step 7a through 7f, but instead of looking for "CCB File" under "Type", you are looking for "STN File", which are your standard files.
  11. The final batch of files to look for are your job files. Repeat the same steps as Step 7, but instead of looking for "CCB File", you will be looking for "Cabinet Solutions Job File". After you are done copying these, you can close both folders by clicking on the Red X in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  12. Copy the new folder that you created and named in Step 1 from your desktop onto your USB drive.
  13. Safely remove your drive and connect it to your new computer.
  14. Double click on My Computer (if you are using Windows XP. If you are using Vista or Windows 7, click on Computer) and then double click on the drive letter that Windows gave to your USB drive.
  15. Double click on the folder that you copied from your previous computer.
  16. Click on Edit, then Select All to highlight all of the files, then click on Edit, then Copy to copy these files. Close this window when you are finished.
  17. Double click on My Computer (or Computer as previously noted), then double click on Local Disk (C:).
  18. Double click on "Program Files" (or "Program Files (x86)" if you are using a 64bit version of Windows).
  19. Double click on Cabinet Solutions.
  20. Click on Edit, then click on Paste to put the files into place. Remember, Cabinet Solutions needs to be shut down before you click on Paste.
  21. You will be asked to over write copies of files. It is safe to do so.
