How To: Manually Backup And Move files

This is to show you how to manually copy your files over to a folder to be copied to a USB drive to be moved to a different computer or burned to a CD. We do not support burning backups directly from our software. After the final group of files are copied, please read the instructions for the burning software you use on how to burn the file folder to a CD. If you have any questions, Tech Support will be happy to help you out.

Keep in mind, YOU DO NOT NEED CABINET SOLUTIONS ACTIVATED OR RUNNING ON THE OLD COMPUTER, ONLY INSTALLED AND THE COMPUTER RUNNING. Meaning that if you've already got Cabinet Solutions working on the new computer and the old one is out of time, no problem at all.

NOTE: If your old computer is no longer working or able to turn on, you must contact a PC Technician for more assistance.

ON THE OLD COMPUTER:

  1. Click here to Download the Cabinet Solutions Archiver
  2. Run the program that is in the ZIP file that was just downloaded
  3. Select the location where Cabinet Solutions is installed. If it is installed in the default location, it should be selected
  4. Select the folder or USB drive you want to back up your files to. NOTE: IT HELPS TO SELECT AN EMPTY USB DRIVE OR FOLDER. IT WILL PROMPT YOU TO OVERWRITE EACH CABINET SOLUTIONS FILE THAT IS IN THAT LOCATION IF YOU DO NOT
  5. Click on Start Copying Files to begin backing up your files
  6. Close the program when the progress bar is full

Once the copying is finished and you copied the files to a folder on your desktop, or to a USB drive, you can copy the folder you backed everything up to onto a USB drive and safely remove the drive from your computer, or if you backed it up directly to a USB drive, you may safely remove it from your computer.

ON THE NEW COMPUTER:

  1. Insert the USB drive into your new computer
  2. Open the RUN window by either clicking on Start at the bottom of your screen and clicking on RUN, or by pressing the Windows Key on your keyboard and pressing R at the same time to bring up a window marked run
  3. In the RUN window, type in the word EXPLORER and click on OK to run it
  4. On the left side of the explorer window, click on the USB drive that has your files in it
  5. If you put your files in a folder on the old computer and copied it ot your USB drive, double click on the folder that is in that window to open it. If you copied the files directly to the USB drive, you don't need to do anything on this step
  6. Highlight everything in that folder by pressing the CTRL key on your keyboard and the letter A at the same time. Right click on any one of the highlighted items and click on Copy. You can close the folder by clicking on the X at the top of the window
  7. On your desktop, Right Click on the green Cabinet Solutions Icon and click on Open File Location
  8. Right click on a blank space in that folder and click on Paste to move the files into place

You will be prompted to overwrite some files during the last step on the new computer. It is safe to do so.
